About me

I'm Katie, married to Jon and mum to Daisy (3) and Leo (1).

I discovered hypnobirthing back in 2019 when I was pregnant for the first time. I'd always been scared of childbirth (if anyone asked me what my greatest fear was, even when  I was a teenager, childbirth was it!) and when I discovered I was pregnant I well and truly buried my head in the sand and tried to pretend it just wasn't happening. I figured it was going to be awful, so I'd rather not know HOW awful and just get through it somehow on the day.

But as it got closer a friend, who had two children, asked me how I was feeling about birth. When I told her I was basically ignoring it, she told me to look into hypnobirthing  as it had really helped her feel more prepared.

Neither of my births were the stereotypical 'perfect' birth (a long induction with Daisy, and a very quick, unplanned homebirth with Leo - no waterbirths here!), but the tools and techniques I had learnt were so useful in helping both of us keep calm and feel confident that we were making the right decisions for us.

After Leo's birth I felt so elated, and was just so AMAZED by what my body had achieved. I started thinking more and more about how birth doesn't need to be something we fear,  if we just get the opportunity to educate ourselves and work on our mindset.

So I decided to become a hypnobirthing teacher, to try and help as many people as possible learn that birth doesn't need to be like what we see in films.

I want YOU to see your inner strength and power, and see how incredible and transformational birth can be.

I was sceptical (I don't see myself as a hippy!) but had a look, and found a local group course. By this point I'd realised that maybe my 'I'll just get through it on the day somehow' plan might not be the best strategy, so Jon and I decided to try it. At the very least we might meet some other people having babies around the same time we were.

By the end of the course I had gone from feeling terrified to feeling confident, and possibly even a little bit excited! I was fascinated to learn how much science there was behind hypnobirthing, how well designed our bodies are for birth and how we can really help them do their thing, and loads of practical information about labour. I realised I was holding on to so much fear, more than I had even realised, and learnt how to acknowledge this and let it go.

I also loved how well the MP3s and relaxation techniques helped me relax, something I've never been very good at, especially when I had a stressful job at the time. I've since learnt how important relaxation skills are not just for birth, but for parenthood as well (and, to be honest, life in general).

And we met some lovely couples too!
